Zolanberg is a small city in the Seawall Mountains of Zilargo, known for its mining operations.[1][2][4] Along with Trolanport and Korranberg, it is one of the three major cities in Zilargo that make up the Triumvirate, Zilargo's government.[3]

Geography[]

Zolanberg is nestled high in the Seawall Mountains on the eastern edge of Zilargo.[1][2][4] It lies at the eastern end of an east–west Orien trade road and is one of two major stops for the lightning rail in Zilargo, the other being Korranberg.[5]

Government[]

Zolanberg is governed by a Council of Nine, with representatives drawn from the city's wealthy elite. The Council also elects the representative for Zolanberg for the Triumvirate.[3]

Trade[]

Zolanberg is primarily a mining town, acting as a hub for a network of gem mines in the Seawall mountains.[6] These mines have brought great wealth to the city, but also dangers in form of kobold and goblin raiders.[1][2][4]

Dragonmarked Houses[]

House Kundarak has a major presence in Zolanberg, including a large vault. House Tharashk's Prospector's Guild recently built a large new facility for itself.[1][4] House Orien has a lightning rail station in the city.[5]

History[]

The gnomish city of Zolanberg was built on the foundations of a Dhakaani city, whose name is lost to history. The city was abandoned by the hobgoblins during the Daelkyr War thousands of years ago. The gnomes occupied the abandoned city and used the knowledge gleaned from the ruins to build a new city-state for themselves. When humans arrived on the continent, led by warlords like Malleon the Reaver, the gnomes began to be concerned that individual city-states were not enough to protect their interests against conquest. Zolanberg, Korranberg, and Trolanport formally agreed to unite their three governments into one nation, creating that nation of Zilargo and its governing Triumvirate. [7]

For centuries, the miners of Zolanberg have clashed with the kobolds of the Seawall Mountains, a conflict the gnomes prefer to use words and cunning to win.[2]

Myths and Legends[]

There are rumors of secret caves beneath Zolanberg that are a source of Khyber dragonshards for the gnomes.[8]
