A worg is a type of magical beast that resembles a normal wolf but is larger, more intelligent,[1][2] and has a fiendish countenance.[3]

Description[]

A worg resembles a typical wolf, though much larger and bearing an intelligent, wicked gleam in its eyes.[3] They have gray or black fur, and on average stand 3‑foot-high (0.91‑meter) high and are 5‑foot-long (1.5‑meter). They weigh around 300 pounds (140 kilograms).[3]

Behavior[]

Despite their higher intelligence and evil traits, worgs tend to act, for the most part, like regular wolves. They often hunt in packs, but are sometimes solitary creatures. Lone worgs tend to hunt smaller animals, while mated pairs and packs hunt larger game. They prefer large, herbivorous animals, usually the young, sick, or weak, but are not afraid to take humanoids, especially when other food sources are exhausted.[3]

Abilities[]

Worgs are skilled at tracking by scent, and pairs or packs work together to take down larger prey.[3]

Combat[]

In any number, worgs employ similar tactics. They stalk humanoid prey for a number of hours or even days, choosing the best of time of day and terrain for the attack. When they do, they employ hit-and-run tactics to exhaust a victim, until finally the whole pack goes in for the kill. If they outnumber a victim or are especially impatient, they might try to corner the prey, then attack.[3]

They attack with their teeth. Like a wolf, they can bite their prey and try to bear them down to the ground. They also have the benefit of stealth, keen senses, and the ability to scent prey.[1]

Their horrific growl is known to instill terror in their prey.[2]

Society[]

Unlike most animalistic creatures, worgs can speak. They can speak both Common and Goblinoid, as well as a language of their own.[1]

Worgs reside in Droaam, in both the cities,[5] among the areas claimed by the Dark Pack,[5] and the wilds of Droaam.[6]

Worgs accompany the werewolves of the Dark Pack.[5]

A few worgs number among the Daask cell in Sharn.[7] An unusually large number of worgs are among the Daask cell in the city of Passage in Aundair.[8]

Relationships[]

Worgs are sometimes enslaved by orcs, goblins, and other such creatures to act as mounts or attack dogs and sometimes they are specifically bred for these purposes.[9] They are also used as mounts by some bands of hobgoblins.[10]
