Tomb of Eternity is the name of a series of five short adventures set in the Eberron campaign setting and using the Dungeons & Dragons® 3.5-edition ruleset that were used during the 2006 D&D Open Championship.

Adventures[]

The Miser's Tomb[]

In ages past, the green dragon known simply as the Miser collected an enormous number of treasures. Unlike many other dragons of Eberron, he gleefully meddled in the affairs of mortals. He hired thieves, assassins, and mages to secure the items he craved. Always paranoid, he secreted his treasures across the land. With his peerless memory and boundless resources, he built devilish traps and impenetrable hiding places for the gold, gems, and magical items that he so craved. The Miser turned his lair into a small fortress where he secured his most precious treasures.

In the end, the Miser's paranoia proved unable to save him. He was afflicted with a terrible curse that slowly killed him. Unfortunately for his enemies, the Miser arose as a ghost shortly after death. Since then, the Miser has been content to remain among his great treasures. Still, now and again he hires adventurers to steal items he covets. In return, he offers treasure maps to the many treasure caches he built up in life.

This adventure, an entry round of the 2006 D&D Open Championship, concerns the final destruction of the Miser. A powerful artifact, the Heart of Reason, lies within the Miser's clutches. Legend holds that the Heart carries tremendous power and unmatched doom.

The Heart of the Beast[]

The human sage Dolgorious Lifespark was a renowned alchemist, mage, and researcher. For years, he was amongst the most respected minds in the field of arcane study. He perfected new methods of crafting golems, built a theoretical framework for the creation and use of arcane energy, and built intricate equations that fostered a greater understanding of the arrangement and movement of planar bodies.

Dolgorious flourished for many years, but as he grew older he became ever more frightened of the prospect of his own mortality. He sought forbidden lore to extend his life, and at one point constructed an iron golem to hold his soul. Alas, his work proved fruitless. Pushed to the edge of madness, he vanished in the passageways deep beneath the city of Sharn. Rumors persisted that he had allied with the Cults of the Dragon Below. In return for his help in breeding new, horrific monsters and perfecting new grafts, Dolgorious gained access to ancient tomes that promised to grant him the immortality he soiught.

Whether Dolgorious still lives or if death finally claimed him, none can say. He paid the debt owed to the Khyber-worshippers in the form of new beasts, powerful magical items, and his masterpiece, a tiny, pulsing monster that's slumbering within a vat of grey, soupy fluid. Before he left the colt, Dolgorious claimed that this beast would one day grow to titanic size. True to his word, the beast grew, grew, and grew. Today, it is several hundred feet long. It not only fills the caverns where it was kept, but it has since pushed the rock and earth outward. Yet, the creature still sleeps. Luckily for the folk of the surface, the great beast still slumbers.

This adventure, the second opening round of the 2006 D&D Open Championship, concerns the final destruction of the great beast. A powerful artifact, the Heart of Reason, lies within the creature, sustaining its life and allowing it to survive the centuries as it grows. Legend holds that the Heart carries tremendous power and unmatched doom.

The Siege of Osken's Point[]

For decades, Osken's Point has defended a small pass through the Graywall Mountains. Once, it defended Breland's western borders against other monsters, raiders, and other threats. Today, it is one of several forts that forms a defensive chain between the monster infested land of Droaam and the kingdom of Breland. Well stocked with supplies and staffed by several hundred skilled soldiers, the Point has served its duty well.

Recently, a new threat has arisen to menace Osken's Point. A mighty green dragon, intent on uncovering an artifact called the Heart of Reason, has recruited a small army of orcs, ogres, and other monsters. Dubbed the Army of the Wyrm, this ramshackle force has gathered in secret to destroy Osken's Point. Even worse, the dragon hired a half-orc spy to enter the Point, contact its chief sirgemaster, and offer him a massive bribe in return for his service. The greedy siegemaster accepted the spy's offer. He sold the dragon plans for the Point, along with maps of the tunnels and sewers beneath it. Osken's Point was built atop an ancient fort, one that had a number of tunnels running to a variety of caves throughout the Graywalls. One of these caves holds the Heart of Reason. The dragon has already uncovered this place, and he is now poised to seize it.

Luckily for the folk of Khorvaire, the dragon cannot yet claim the heart. When Osken's Point was first built, the engineers found a strange, green staff amidst the rubble. Divinations and other investigations linked it to the heart of reason, but no one was able to track it down. The dragon must seize the staff to open the vault containing the Heart. The siegemaster, while unable to steal the staff from the commander's vault, has given the dragon the next best thing. The dragon sends the bulk of its army to attack the Point from above, while a small, elite unit uses the siegemaster's maps to attack from below. By catching the defenders from two directions, the dragon believes that its victory is assured.

This adventure, the second opening round of the 2006 D&D Open Championship, details the siege of Osken's Point, the characters' efforts to defeat the monsters sent in to attack the Point from below, and the recovery of the Heart of Reason. A powerful artifact, the Heart of Reason lies within the creature, sustaining its life and allowing it to survive the centuries as it grows. Legend hols that the Heart carries tremendous power and unmatched doom.
