The Death Beyond by Johnny Wilson is an unpublished Eberron novel that was intended to be released in 2006 and be the first book in an unpublished series called The Tomes of Karak or The Lost Tomes of Karak.[2][3][5][4][1]
'The Death Beyond' features brand-new races that were created specifically for the Eberron campaign setting. In this novel, the world that is still struggling to recover from near annihilation that in the Last War must once again face the prospect of destruction, this time at the claws of a dragon.
Exiled from his homeland, Kevlyn Keladin is on the run for his life. To save himself, he must save the long-lost Tomes of Karak before they fall into the clutches of a black-hearted dragon bent on world domination.
Development[]
Appearing early in the Eberron novel schedule, the book was to be written by Johnny L. Wilson, at one time a Group Publisher at Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast and a president and publisher of Paizo Publishing, covering Dragon and Dungeon magazines, among others.[3] He wrote the core Dungeons & Dragons novel The Bloody Eye under the shared pseudonym T. H. Lain.
Although listed on a few online bookseller sites[2][1] and in databases of SF&F and other fiction as having been published on January 11[1] or August 8, 2006,[3][5][4] it was never published, nor apparently even publicized on the Wizards of the Coast website. Only mock-up cover art and sometimes incomplete publisher's descriptions can be found online now.
A mock-up cover depicting a black dragon over an orrery confronting the heroes was released to booksellers.[3][1] A finalized version of the artwork by regular Eberron cover artist Michael Komarck appeared on his (now-deleted) website. Made in 2005, it is described as "Cover art for the unpublished novel Death Beyond".[6] This artwork was later reused as another mock-up cover for The Shard Axe.
