Tashalatora is one of the hidden monastic fortresses that guard the nation of Adar in Sarlona.[1][2]

Geography[]

Tashalatora's true location is a closely guarded secret, especially as it is one of the fortresses guarding Adar's border with Riedra, but it is located somewhere in northeastern Adar overlooking Vulpana Falls. The monastery guards one of the only accessible passages into Adar from Riedra for hundreds of miles.[2]

Defenses[]

A shroud resonator deep within the monastery protects the monastery and the region of Adar from scrying and teleportation.[3]

Tashalatora trains strong fighters out of the fear that the Riedrans might one day attempt to cross into Adar through Vulpana Falls, which the citadel overlooks. However, the difficult terrain beyond, including the Shanjueed Jungle and Mabar manifest zone within it, as well as the lack of nearby Riedran settlements, has deterred any attempts to breach the falls.[2]

Rumors & Legends[]

Legends tell of a powerful Corvaguran necromancer who once dwelled at the heart of the nearby Shanjueed Jungle in ancient Sarlona. Some believe his great power stemmed from a relic he uncovered—an artifact said to be left behind by giant explorers from a forgotten age. The Keepers of the Word in Tashalatora see this tale as more than myth, suggesting that the jungle may still conceal magical secrets waiting to be uncovered.[4]

The elders of Tashalatora have received troubling news of the so-called altavar haunting the Shanjueed Jungle. However, they suspect this entity is not a spirit but the Inspired lady Wyndurgha herself, transformed by her failed ritual and bound into the form of an elan. If Wyndurgha could be persuaded to join Adar, her knowledge and power could become a formidable asset in their defense against the Inspired.[4]

Inhabitants[]

The monks of Tashalatora are some of the toughest and most skilled warriors in Adar, who maintain constant vigilance in case of a Riedran attack. These monks blend psionic abilities with martial prowess, and many come to the monastery to learn from the monks.[2] The fighting techniques of the Tashalatora monks are taught as far away as Breland.[5]

Representatives of the Keepers of the Word reside within the monastery-fortress.[6][4]

Notable Inhabitants[]

  • Venerable Thatari is an aged female kalashtar telepath and one of the elders of Tashalatora. This mighty telepath resides in the mountains miles from the monastery within a cave set into the face of a cliff. She communicates with the elders of Tashalatora using her psionic powers. She is among the most powerful psions in Adar.[2] She is an elder among the Keepers of the Word and member of the Council of the Wise.[6]
