High King Shaeras Vadallia is the ruler of the nation of Valenar and military leader of the Valaes Tairn warclans.[1][2][3] As High King, Vadallia is owed fealty by 45 of the Valaes Tairn warbands on Khorvaire. However, only 20 of the warbands are under his direct command at any one time. Together, these warbands are known as the Host of Valenar.[1][3] He currently resides in his royal palace in Taer Valaestas.[1][2][4]
Personality[]
As a devoted follower of the Spirits of the Past, Shaeras Vadallia believes he is the vessel for the legendary elf warrior Vadallia, and must follow in the path of his ancestor and find a foe as challenging as the giants of the Cul'sir Dominion.[6]
History[]
In the early years of the Last War, War Leader Shaeras Vadallia led the Valaes Tairn warclans from Aerenal to Khorvaire to serve as mercenaries for the nation of Cyre. For decades, Vadallia fought for Cyre, leading his forces in battles against Breland, Karrnath, and Talenta warbands.[note 1][1][2]
In 956 YK, Vadallia declared himself High King of the nation of Valenar and his warclans seized a portion of southeasten Cyre. Vadallia cited the presence of the Vales Tairn in that area in the ancient days of the Dhakaani Empire to justify his actions. Some believe that Vadallia was motivated after being insulted by the queen of Cyre. Others believe Vadallia claimed Valenar out of a desire for glory in battle. But if Vadallia desired to fight a Cyran invasion, then he was disappointed, since Cyre was beleaguered on all sides and unable to resist the betrayal of their elf mercenaries and loss of territory.[1][2][7]
Vadallia continued to offer the services of the warclans as mercenaries to participants in the Last War, and offered discounts if nations recognized the nation of Valenar. In 988 YK, King Boranel ir'Wynarn of Breland agreed to Vadallia's proposal and recognized Valenar.[8] At the discussions that led to the Treaty of Thronehold, Vadallia represented Valenar and successfully argued that the Cyran refugees should have no say in the negotiations.[9]
At some point, a revenant blade named Haverra Phasha attempted to assassinate Vadallia. Her attempt was thwarted by the High King and his bodyguards, but she managed to escape.[10]
Vadallia has denied responsibility for peacetime raids by Valenar warbands in nearby Karrnath, Q'barra, and the Talenta Plains, but has not taken any steps to stop such raids from happening. Some speculate that Vadallia is deliberately attempting to provoke war with his neighbors, but wants them to attack his nation first.[11]

- ↑ The Eberron Campaign Guide appears to contradict itself on how long the elves served as mercenaries. It states they served for "over 30 years" on page 162 and "five decades" on page 163.
