Remmanons are devils of discord and dissonance, living personifications of greed, lust and jealousy. With cunning words, magical manipulation, loyal agents, and bloody deals, remmanons sow distrust among mortals, felling the mightiest of strongholds from the inside out.[1]

Description[]

Remmanons appear deceptively mortal, possessing roughly the same height and weight measurements of the average adult male human. Their forms are hairless, androgynous, and genderless, supple and beautiful but seemingly lacking in strength. They wear no clothes but are adorned with piercing hooks, barbs, rings, and chains of iron from which hang small scraps of paper inscribed with the names of mortals who have entered into contracts with them. Their facial expressions are unreadable, with staring, solid-black eyes, and a a pair of long horns curled from the sides of their heads and met just below the chin.[1]

Personality[]

Remmanons, even by baatezu standards, are arrogant creatures, convinced of their own infallibility and of the belief that they personified the greatest aspects of their kind. They are crafty, patient, far-sighted, and ambitious fiends who enjoy exploiting, corrupting, hurting, and destroying mortals, and never hesitate to take the opportunity when they can. Adept in most social skills, they worm their way into devilish deals with their prey and abuse the exact wording when it is time to make good on their promises.[1]

Remmanons travel the planes in search of adversaries to trick and thwart. Knowledgeable of histories and social systems, they take their time playing all sides in a conflict against each other, and if no such conflicts existed to manipulate they would simply make one themselves. This is all in aid of their only desires: to bring down the virtuous, pervert the pure, and subjugate the weak beneath the iron fist of evil. Their schemes can take generations to unfold as they acquire and empower allies while instigating iniquity and friction against their enemies, all as part of a master plan against a region culminating in a decisive blow against all that is good.[1]

Abilities[]

A remmanon's weak frame belies a hidden strength, and their very touch burns their victims with hellfire. They have the usual devilish immunities to fire and poison and vulnerability to good-aligned weapons treated with alchemical silver. Though they have no wings they are capable flyers, able to hover off the ground and maneuver well in the air. At will, they can use detect good, disguise self, greater teleport, and plane shift (only on willing targets) as spell-like abilities. Twice per day they cam attempt to summon up to three bearded devils, which succeeds about three-fourths of the time.[1]

The most unique power of remmanons is their insidious aura, a telepathic emanation that plays on the doubts and fears of its foes. Nearly all who draw too close to one are befuddled and confused, acting in strange and sometimes self-destructive ways (although their seemingly random behavior does not seem to take into account the remmanon's presence). The remmanon itself, as well as its allies, had a much easier time striking enemies so perplexed.[1]

Combat[]

Befitting their appearance, if not true strength, remmanons are among the devils least likely to engage in combat. This is not out of cowardice, as they do not fear wading into the fray, but due to a preference for manipulation and influencing.[1]

Rarely are remmanons unprotected, whether by mortal cultists on the Material Plane or lesser fiends on more otherworldly battlegrounds. They insulate themselves with minions, using them to keep the foe off balance. If possible these servants are devils with capabilities that complement their own, such as erinyes.[1]

Hovering over the battlefield, remmanons allow their insidious aura to undo their foes while ordering their servants to destroy the confused enemy. If their own side seems to be getting overwhelmed, they summon more devils to turn back the tide.[1]

Society[]

Remmanons command respect, and even if few lesser devils can appreciate the subtleties of seduction and manipulation, a fact remmanons are quick to point out, many join them regardless for the potential profit and instruction a position as their lackey might provide. Those under them might find positions as superior officers like generals in the societies a remmanon corrupts and controls.[1]

Equipment[]

Remmanons collect valuables, including coinage, jewelry and art, for use as bribes, keeping up appearances, and in the form of personal defense objects, such as protective rings.[1]

Lands[]

In Eberron, remmanons are native to the Material Plane, and can be found hidden throughout the shattered continent of Xen'drik performing their wicked work on drow and giants. A few spread to other realms, such as Khorvaire, where they corrupt the dragonmarked. Given their plane-shifting powers, however, they can be encountered on nearly any plane, and have far more freedom than other fiends.[1]

Remmanons also have an uncanny ability to hear magical calls for aid, and might appear about one out of twenty times when greater planar ally was used by a non-good spellcaster. Bold remmanons might even voluntarily interfere with greater planar binding spells. In either case, they offered a contract in exchange for their services, even if not trapped in any way by the summoning.[1]

Beyond Eberron, the remmanons, like most devils, are native to the Nine Hells.[1]

History[]

Remmanons are rare descendants of the quori who invaded Xen'drik 40,000 years ago.[1]
