Rage drakes are large, aggressive, and powerful reptilian creatures known for their fierce combat skills and primal instincts. They rely on brute force and speed to overpower their enemies, pouncing and grappling to dominate foes in battle.[1]
Description[]
Rage drakes are large, heavily muscled reptilian creatures with a feline build, dark red scales, and a fierce demeanor. Unlike true dragons, they do not have wings but are incredibly fast and strong for their size, reaching lengths of over 12 ft (3.7 m) and weighing up to 6,000 lb (2,700,000 g). They do not hoard treasure but value precious gems as food. Despite having some rudimentary reasoning, rage drakes are primarily animalistic, driven by rage and primal instincts.[1]
Fiendish rage drakes are a more powerful and terrifying version of regular rage drakes, bred by demon princes for use in Abyssal armies. They are stronger, tougher, and more aggressive, with enhanced abilities like increased strength, tougher defenses, and the ability to deal extra damage against good-aligned foes. Unlike normal rage drakes, fiendish rage drakes also have a demonic aura, making them even more dangerous in combat.[1]
Behavior[]
Rage drakes are aggressive and territorial. They are brutal, instinctive hunters, typically ambushing their prey and using their immense strength and speed to overpower foes. They are known for their cruelty and selfishness, embodying the worst aspects of dragonkind. Rage drakes do not speak but can understand Common and Draconic to a limited extent. In combat, they charge and pounce, often fighting to the death if overmatched but equally likely to flee if the fight turns against them.[1]
Combat[]
Rage drakes are fierce fighters that use their strength to deal heavy damage. They can grab, pounce on, and shake their enemies to stun them. When they get angry, they grow more tough and strong, making them even more dangerous in battle. If they’re losing, they might fight to the death or try to escape. Their fighting style is all about using raw power and instinct to overpower their opponents.[1]
Ecology[]
Rage drakes are typically found in dangerous, remote areas, such as coastal cliffs or wild territories in places like Argonnessen and Khorvaire. They are feared and respected by locals, with some barbarian tribes using them as mounts. Despite their aggressive nature, they are not inherently evil but are often treated as such due to their behavior. Rage drakes do not typically form lasting bonds with others of their kind and are solitary creatures, except when in combat or when bred by fiends to serve in Abyssal armies.[1]
Rage drakes can sometimes be coerced into serving as mounts for powerful riders, though they are too intelligent to be fully trained. Riding one is risky, especially when it enters a rage, making it difficult to control. Maintaining a rage drake as a mount requires regular rewards like food and gems, with ongoing costs of 500 to 1,500 gp per month to keep them satisfied.[1]
History[]
Rage drakes have a mysterious origin, possibly created by ancient forces seeking to harness the power of dragons without the complexity of their intelligence or magic. Some believe they were bred specifically for battle as mounts or weapons.[1]
Lands[]
Rage drakes are found in large numbers in Argonnessen, where they are feared and hunted. They are also used as mounts by the barbarian tribes of Argonnessen and are featured in the culture of the Lhazaar Principalities, where their likeness is often seen as figureheads on ships.[1]
Rage drakes are also found in Q'barra, where some Trothlorsvek dragonborn clans have managed to entice them into their service.[2]
