The Qabalrin Wheel is a liturgical calendar used by the Blood of Vol, and the oldest active calendar on Eberron.[1]

Description[]

The calendar divides the year into 13 months, each corresponding to one of Eberron's moons and associated with one of the dragonmarks. Unlike the Galifar Calendar, this includes the lost moon Crya; the month of Crya comes after Vult and before Zarantyr and is associated with the Mark of Death. The Qabalrin year is one month longer than the Galifar year.[1]

The Blood of Vol counts years from the betrayal of the House of Vol and Erandis Vol's transformation to undeath. This is notated 'FH', for Fall of the House. Thus, 998 YK in the Galifar Calendar is equivalent to 2398 FH. Not all Seekers are familiar with the counting of years; some use it only to reckon the appropriate time of year for religious rituals. All also use the Galifar Calendar for secular purposes and interactions outside the faith.[1]

History[]

Developed by and named for the ancient Qabalrin civilization of elves that dwelt in Xen'drik, the Qabalrin Wheel dates to well before the Seekers of Divinity Within, and was in use prior to the Quori Invasion and war with the Cul'sir Empire.[1] It has largely fallen out of use even beyond Khorvaire among the elves.

Notable Years[]

  • 1 FH, the destruction of the House of Vol other than the lich Erandis d'Vol.[1]
  • 2398 FH, the present year.[1][2]

Notes[]

  • The Faiths of Eberron entry on the Qabalrin Wheel calendar has a likely canon conflict: it states that the year is "one month longer than the Galifar year" but also equates 998 YK with 2398 FH, which is not conclusive but highly suggestive that FH years are precisely 1400 years behind YK years, which is not likely if Galifar years are 336 days long (12×28) and Qabalrin years remain 364 days (13×28).
  • The Qabalrin year, if it genuinely has 13 months of 28 days, is much closer to the duration of an Earth year. This suggests that the length of Eberron's year was naturally Earth-like, and magically or physically shifted to a swifter orbit or longer days when Crya was destroyed.
