The Poison Dusk are an oft-misunderstood group of "scales" in Q'barra that make up a cult of the Dragon Below dedicated to the Cold Sun.[1][2][note 1] They are in various stages of corruption thanks to the influence of the Cold Sun, an overlord from the Age of Demons with dominion over reptilian creatures who was bound to Q'barra by the couatl. They are opposed by the lizardfolk of the Cold Sun Federation ("Masvirik'Uala").[2]

Base of Operations[]

Poison Dusk kobolds live within the Q'barran jungles, separate from the kobolds of the Endworld Mountains.[1] Their stronghold is Haka'torvhak.[2]

Activities[]

Poison Dusk kobolds poison the water and food supplies of towns, or simply terrorize colonies in the northern jungles of Q'barra. Poison Dusk kobolds have attacked and destroyed colonies appearing within the northern jungles.[1]

The Poison Dusk seek to spread dusk shards, while limiting the areas covered by dawn shards that keep the Cold Sun bound.[2][3] The Poison Dusk will attack House Tharashk and other independent mining operations, stealing the harvested shards for their own purposes while leaving the operation otherwise intact to facilitate future shard extraction.[2]

Beliefs[]

Thought to be a cult that worships the dragon Rhashaak, the Poison Dusk actually follow Rhashaak as the voice of the Cold Sun.[2] The Poison Dusk faith worships Rhashaak as the incarnation of a god.[1] The Poison Dusk are devoted to Rhashaak and Masvirik, and seek to gather dusk shards to facilitate demonic possession by the bound fiends who serve Masvirik.[2] The Poison Dusk seek to extinguish the light of the Silver Flame keeping their master bound, while gathering and spreading the dusk shards.[2]

Members[]

Members of the Poison Dusk include reptilian humanoids such as lizardfolk, kobolds, and troglodytes, and dragonborn of Q'barra that are corrupted by the influence of the Cold Sun. Kobolds are the most easily corrupted. In contrast, the Cold Sun tribes of lizardfolk are more resistant to the influence of the Cold Sun thanks to being touched by the Silver Flame.[2] With each generation the overlord Cold Sun gathers new servants from among the troglodytes below Q'barra and the dragonborn who guard Haka'torvhak, swelling the ranks of the Poison Dusk.[2] Influence varies from those falling prey to savage instinct, those who embed dusk shards into their heads, and those who carry larger shards and grow more reptilian or even become a vessel for fiends.[2]

Relations[]

The Cold Sun Federation and dragonborn both oppose the Poison Dusk.[2] The Cold Sun Federation often fight with the Poison Dusk.[3] The dragonborn have raided Haka'torvhak to destroy Rhashaak's soldiers for generations, but can never keep it free of their power.[2]

Appendix[]

Background[]

The Poison Dusk group is the 4th-edition replacement for the Poison Dusk lizardfolk and Blackscale lizardfolk. Both types of lizardfolk would be represented by those corrupted by the influence of Masvirik, the Cold Sun.[2]

Notes[]

  1. 1.0 1.1 Although not expressly stated in the source to be a cult of the Dragon Below, their worship of an Overlord most likely qualifies them as one.
