==Biography==

Merrix is the grandson of the first Merrix, and son of Aaren d'Cannith. He is also the former patriarch's grandnephew. He was an infant when the first warforged were made and is the youngest of the three leaders trying to become the "Great Gorgon." Being the youngest of the three he also has the weakest claim, but his skill makes the other two leaders wary of him. Merrix does not want to be the leader for the sake of personal power; he simply feels that the other two are not strong enough to do a good job of it. He's willing to lead for now, but he'd prefer to be left to his experiments. If he could find someone whom he thought was forceful enough to be taken seriously by the other houses and also willing to give Merrix a voice in house decisions, he'd be happy to hand over the routine politics of leadership.

This article is about the current baron of Cannith South. If you are looking for the creator of the warforged, see Merrix d'Cannith (senior)

Baron Merrix d'Cannith is the current head of the southern holdings of House Cannith, including the Sharn Cannith enclave in Breland. He is currently one of the most renowned and brilliant inventors in Khorvaire.[4]

Activities[]

Merrix's main interests are in research, and development, particularly on the warforged.[2] He also frequently sponsors expeditions into the Mournland to recover Cannith equipment and designs lost in the Day of Mourning, especially around the Cannith forgehold of Whitehearth.[3][5]

Besides research into warforged, Merrix also works to improve the living conditions of warforged in Sharn. Warforged who work at the Cannith enclave are treated as equal to the other employees.[6]

Relationships[]

Merrix has a rivalry with Jorlanna and Zorlan d'Cannith as they are also competing to be the next head of House Cannith.[1]

History[]

Merrix was born during the Last War, a few years before the first modern warforged were created.[1] He is the son of Aaren d'Cannith, and grandson of his namesake, Merrix d'Cannith the Elder. In 970 YK, his father Aaren was excoriated from House Cannith, and Merrix was subsequently adopted by his grandfather.[7]

Merrix rose up through the ranks of House Cannith, eventually becoming the Baron of Cannith's Sharn enclave[7] In 994 YK, when the Day of Mourning occurred, much of the leadership of House Cannith, including Merrix's granduncle Starrin d'Cannith, was wiped out by the event, leaving Merrix as one of the most senior members of House Cannith. In addition, the central forgehold of Whitehearth was wiped out by the Mourning, making the Sharn enclave the primary Cannith enclave for research and development.[8]

In the aftermath of the Day of Mourning, the remnants of House Cannith could not decide on a leader. Jorlanna and Zorlan d'Cannith both emerged as potential candidates for the next leader, but Merrix did not consider either of them worthy of the position. Despite having a weaker claim than Jorlanna and Zorlan and a lack of political experience, Merrix staked his own claim to the leadership of House Cannith. His skill, youth, and control of the Sharn enclave forces his rivals to take him seriously.[1][4]
