Merfolk are a race of aquatic humanoids that live underwater.[3]

History[]

The merfolk of the Thunder Sea have clashed with the Lords of Dust in the past.[4]

Appearance & Personality[]

A merfolk has the upper body, arms, and head of a fair-featured human, and instead of legs it has the scaled tail of a great fish. Merfolk are marine, but amphibious, and prefer to avoid combat.[3]

Society[]

Merfolk live in cities and isolated settlements within shallow seas and coral reefs, where protection and food are abundant. They train aquatic animals to serve as their guardians, similarly to the way humans train dogs and horses.[3]

The Devourer of the Dark Six is sometimes depicted as a merfolk, though whether they worship this deity is not stated.[5]

Lands[]

Merfolk reside underwater in coastal, temperate regions.[3] They have been seen in the Dragonreach and the Thunder Sea.[4][6]

Notes[]

Keith Baker has mentioned on his website that his original proposal for Eberron included sahuagin and the merfolk as major races of the seas of Eberron, with a smaller presence of the aquatic elves around Aerenal. The merfolk would be a diverse race that occupied the Lhazaar Sea from the western coast of Khorvaire to the eastern coast of Sarlona, with vastly different cultures on either coast.[7]
