Masvirik, known as the Cold Sun, is an Overlord from the Age of Demons with dominion over reptilian creatures and that is mostly forgotten outside of the lizardfolk tribes of the Masvirik'Uala (Cold Sun Federation).[2]
History[]
Masvirik is an entity that once claimed dominion over modern-day Q'barra that is all but forgotten in modern times outside of the dreams of lizardfolk and the plagued mind of Rhashaak, its once guardian and now corrupted voice.[2][3]
In the Age of Demons, Masvirik dominated the lizardfolk and other scaly creatures of the region from his throne in the city of Haka'torvhak.[2] But the sacrifice of the couatl to form the Silver Flame bound him and freed the lizardfolk from his will.[2] Black dragons soon were dispatched to watch over the obsidian city of Haka'torvhak, which are said to contain fiends trapped since the Age of Demons.[4]
Three thousand years after Rhashaak's watch first began, Masvirik escaped his bonds and warped his guardian to exert its will over the region once again.[2] Eberron dragonshards housing the scattered shards of his essence flared, and awakened ancient dreams in the lizardfolk.[2] Along with the return of the dragonborn descendants of the legions of the original members of the Light of Siberys, long-since spread out across the lands of eastern Khorvaire under dreams of conquest, this helped seal Masvirik within its prison.[2]
Description[]
Masvirik's appearance is unknown. He maintains a bond with his guardian and chosen servant, the dragon-god Rhashaak.[2] Masvirik once claimed dominion over reptilian creatures.[3]
Masvirik is an obscure entity, with only the lizardfolk of the Cold Sun Federation able to claim much knowledge of the overlord in the present day.[2]
Personality[]
Masvirik is considered cousin to Tiamat, and they may clash over portfolios.[2] Masvirik has hate for all, and has generally slaughtered those who do not serve him in the past. He attempts subtle schemes now that House Tharashk's presence in Q'barra has facilitated the recovery of more dusk shards, and allowed for more of his fiendish servants bound within them to possess members of the Poison Dusk.[5]
Relationships[]
Masvirik has some followers among the Lords of Dust, but maintains no prakhutu on the Bleak Council.[2] His fiendish servants are bound in dusk shards in Q'barra.[5] His chief servant is Rhashaak, who is bound in Haka'torvhak.[2]
He is served by the Poison Dusk, the corrupted kobolds, lizardfolk, dragonborn, and troglodytes of Q'barra.[2]
Abilities[]
Masvirik is an immortal being with power over all of Q'barra.[5] He is currently imprisoned by the influence of the web of dawn shards across Q'barra, which blunt his power but does not completely block his influence.[5] Rhashaak acts as his now corrupted guardian.[3]
Masvirik has dominion over scaly, venomous creatures that slither and crawl.[2] Masvirik is said to have the ability to warp lizardfolk into creatures like the kobolds and troglodytes as servants to his will.[2] With the Poison Dusk, Masvirik has a host of troglodytes serving him beneath the surface of Q'barra, and many kobolds in the northern jungles of Q'barra in addition to lizardfolk and dragonborn.[5] His strength is greatest within Haka'torvhak, and he corrupts new dragonborn, including those assigned to watch his prison, into his service in the Poison Dusk with every generation.[5]

Notes[]
Masvirik may bear some resemblance to the serpent deity Zehir from 4th-edition core D&D, including a potential rivalry with Tiamat, a fellow Overlord with dominion over dragons.[2]
Keith Baker has suggested on his website that Rhashaak may be a puppet to the fully cognizant overlord, a mad dragon beset by delusions of grandeur believing himself to be a god, a tortured guardian aware of its fallen state seeking absolution, or any combination of these or others.[6]
The original alternate spelling for the Cold Sun, "Malsvirik," appears similar to the Draconic words for "evil" (malsvir) and "star" (isk).[7][8][9]
