The kalaraq quori, also known as eyebinders, are the leaders of the quori and of Riedra.[1][2] Currently twelve are known to reside in Dal Quor.[3]

History[]

The kalaraq quori are immortal beings who have existed at least since Eberron's Age of Monsters, but they have no recollection of the time before then.[4] At some point in their history, quori sages discovered that Dal Quor undergoes periodic cycles of transformation, along with all the spirits within. Seeing this transformation as death, most of the quori, led by the kalaraqs, began to look for a way to stop this cycle. A few quori disagreed, including one kalaraq known as Taratai, but they were branded as rebels and heretics by the others and forced to flee.[4] About 1800 years ago, these rebels fused with human monks to become the kalashtar, who continue to be hunted by the quori.[5]

The karalaq created the Dreaming Dark and orchestrated the Sundering, the subsequent formation of Riedra, and the creation of the Inspired as steps of their plans to stop the cycles of Dal Quor. About 200 years after the founding of Riedra, a kalaraq general named Ulakhun and his Inspired forces laid siege to Kasshta Keep in Adar. However, the forces of Adar managed to defeat the army and imprisoned Ulakhun's soul.[5] Since then, most kalaraq quori have remained in Dal Quor and not come to Eberron except when absolutely necessary.[3]

Description[]

Kalaraq quori appear as beings of shadow outlined by light and surrounded by a mass of disembodied eyes that constantly shift and whirl around the quori.[1][2]

Society[]

Kalaraq quori are the leaders at the top of the quori's caste system. They often are engaged in political maneuvering with each other; attempting to implement their own agenda and gain power for themselves.[3]

Abilities[]

Kalaraqs are the most powerful of the quori. They have many powerful psionic abilities, including the ability to mind seed their personality into another creature to create an extension of themselves. The Kalaraq carefully use this ability to subvert dissent and create sleeper agents across Eberron.[1][2][6][7][8]

Kalaraq quori can also disperse into a swirling maelstrom of eyes and shadow, engulfing its enemies and devouring their minds. One of its most fearsome powers is its ability to rip out a victim's soul and enslave it, binding it to one of the eyes endlessly orbiting the kalaraq.[1]

Notable Kalaraq[]

  • The Devourer of Dreams: The overlord of the quori and the Dreaming Dark[2][8][9]
  • Lord Surasek: Head of the Guiding Path, the branch of the Unity of Riedra overseeing religion and education from Durat Tal.[10]
  • Lord Zoratesh: High Minister of the Harmonious Shield, Riedra's military forces.[11]
  • Lady Sharadhuna: High Minister of the Thousand Eyes, Riedra's law enforcement and secret police.[9]
  • Tirashana: The top agent of the Dreaming Dark in Khorvaire.[6]
  • Taratai: The leader of the quori rebels who became the Kalashtar and founder of the Path of Light.[5]
  • Ulakhun A great general of Riedra who was defeated and imprisoned by Adar in 702 Age of Taratai (about 1100 years ago).[5]
