Hazel d'Orien is a member of House Orien and the Couriers Guild who operates as a courier at the lightning rail station in Fairhaven, Aundair.[1]
History[]
She grew up inside House Orien, knowing its hierarchy and structured way of life. Perhaps for this reason, the young Hazel had a thirst for adventure, which worried senior house members, particularly after she manifested her dragonmark. Fortunately, when she came of age, she found she could meet both their needs and hers by becoming a courier.[1]
Activities[]
She works directly out of the lightning rail station, where she collects mail brought in by coach and delivers it to local towns and homesteads up to 20 miles (32 kilometers) away, or else forwards it on to other coaches. Independently, Hazel also hires herself out for "express" deliveries, whether out of necessity or due to boredom with her everyday duties, and delivers letters, documents, and small parcels around the area.[1]
Due to the nature of her job, she knows all the local inhabitants and an awful lot about them, often from who gets what letters and even what's in those letters. She might possibly share that knowledge if asked.[1]
Abilities[]
Her Mark of Passage gives her the power to teleport a short distance and summon a mount. Though not a mage, she is skilled in the use of magical items. Her hobby is leatherworking.[1]
Possessions[]
Hazel is equipped with a dagger and a wand of glitterdust and wears studded leather armor for protection, and has four scrolls of expeditious retreat, a scroll of identify, a scroll of fireball, as well as two potions of healing. She rides a magebred horse.[1]
