Haztaratain Monastery is a monastery hidden in Adar. It is famous for being the birthplace of the kalashtar, and is a major pilgrimage site for followers of the Path of Light.[2]

Geography[]

Haztaratain Monastery is carved into a mountainside on the eastern side of Adar close to the coast. Its location is hidden from outsiders, but it is within 50 miles (80,000 meters) of Riedra.[2]

Defenses[]

The monastery has several watchtowers that the monks use to keep an eye on the Riedran coast.[2] A shroud resonator deep within the monastery protects it and the region of Adar from scrying and teleportation.[3]

Trade[]

The monastery is close to several Adaran villages, who help supply the monastery. The villagers consider the monastery to be a sacred site.[2]

History[]

Around 1,800 years ago, a monk named Hazgaal and his students dwelt at the monastery when they were visited by 67 quori spirits seeking to flee the plane of Dal Quor. Hazgaal and his students underwent a ritual to bind their souls to those of the quori spirits, creating the first kalashtar. Hazgaal united with Taratai, leader of the quori, to become the kalashtar Haztaratai, who first taught the precepts of the Path of Light. At some point the monastery was renamed after him.[4]

Inhabitants[]

The Haztaratain order of monks train at the monastery and regather there on the spring equinox for an exchange of information and news known as the Gathering of Storms.[5]

Representatives of the Keepers of the Word reside within the monastery-fortress.[6]

Notable Inhabitants[]

  • Keidrii is a female human monk, egoist, and Haztaratain who is is the eldest summit sentinel in Haztaratain Monastery, and the elder of the order. She leads the information exchange known as the Gathering of Storms. Kiedrii is believed to be able to walk through the sides of mountains and wield the storms of Adar.[7]
