Half-dragons are the result of a dragon crossbreeding with another creature or of that creature undergoing a magical ritual.[1][2]

History[]

Some 2,600 years ago, The House of Vol in Aerenal sought to gain mastery over the Mark of Death through engaging in blood rituals with a clan of dragons to create half-dragons. The discovery of this, united the elves of Aerenal and the dragons of Argonnessen a purge of House Vol.[3][4] The dragons and elves alike declared the mixing of dragon and elf blood to be abominable.[5]

Description[]

Half-dragons inherit the traits and appearance of their dragon forebears, blended with that of their non-dragon ancestor.[2]

Abilities[]

Half-dragons have a breath weapon ability related to their associated draconic color.[1][2]

Society[]

Half-dragons are typically looked down on and shunned by dragons.[6] Those who ally with the Daughter of Khyber may become half-dragons.[7]

Lands[]

Half-dragons are present in Q'barra, some serving as minions to the dragon Rhashaak in Haka'torvhak.[8][9] Elves of the Draleus Tairn may have rituals to create half-dragons.[10] Some half-dragon lizardfolk are present in Xen'drik.[11]

Half-dragon rakshasa are known to belong to the Talons of Tiamat, and act as liaisons between the Daughter of Khyber and followers of other Overlords within the Lords of Dust.[12]

Background[]

Keith Baker has suggested on his website that the line of Vol was not exterminated for simply producing a half-dragon, but rather for producing a creature with an apex Mark of Death. He suggested that a dragon creating a half-dragon with the mortal races would be considered appropriate when it involved the Draconic Prophecy or is specifically required for a desired outcome.[14]
