A great fintail, or hapaharan'ost in Draconic, is a breed of aquatic dinosaur[2][1][3] and considered a larger relative of the fintail.[1][3]
Description[]
Like fintails,[3] they possess long snake-like necks and tails and muscular ovoid bodies with fins in place of legs. Great fintails measure 30 feet (9.1 meters) long, with the tail comprising fully half the length, and can weigh up to 5,000 pounds (2,300 kilograms). Those who sight only the head or tail from the surface might mistake it for an enormous serpent.[2]
Abilities[]
They are powerful, quick, and have great maneuverability, being able to make sharp turns. Despite their size, they are surprising good at hiding, at least underwater.[2]
Although largely water-dwelling, great fintails are not amphibious and must return to the surface to breathe.[2]
They see with low-light vision and have a good sense of scent.[2]
Behavior[]
Fintails may be found alone or in pairs, or in herds of 5 to 8 specimens.[2]
Tactics[]
Great fintails are much more aggressive than their fintail cousins.[2][3] In general, great fintails will attack any creature it comes across, lunging forward with its neck and snapping at its prey. They hunt with their heads above the surface, then dive swiftly to snatch prey.[2]
Usage[]
An aquatic druid can potentially have a fintail animal companion.[4]
Lands[]
Fintails might be encountered in the Dreary Marsh in Xen'drik.[5]
