Gornath the Madwyrm is a mad psionic red dragon who is a threat across the length of Sarlona. He leads a cabal of rogue dragons in Sarlona and has a cult of yuan-ti devoted to his service known as the Gornatha.[1][4][5]
Description[]
Gornath the Madwyrm is barely recognizable as a red dragon. Warped by his psionic powers, his red scales are dull and flecked with black and his body is deeply scarred from skirmishes with the Harmonious Shield of Riedra. His wings are jet-black, and both his wings and his neck frill are shredded, which causes a distinct hiss as he flies. He mounts a skull (generally, human or yuan-ti) on each of the frill-spikes on his neck frill, and wears a heavy mithral chain with yuan-ti and half-giant skulls on his throat. His teeth, tongue, and eyes are all a deep red-black.[1]
Relationships[]
Gornath is allied with a group of rogue dragons across the length of Sarlona, and is served by a growing cult of a hundred or more yuan-ti who worship him as a manifestation of the overlord known as Syrkarn, along with a group of four psionic phrenic manticores in his lair.[1]
Personality[]
Gornath is mad because the mixing of psionic power with the dragon's innate sorcerer powers. He is also whispered to by the rakshasa entombed beneath his lair.[1]
Activities[]
Gornath claims that dragonshards burn him, and does not include dragonshards in his hoard. He will go out of his way to destroy Riedran merchant vessels carrying Siberys shards taken from Xen'drik on their way to the port city of Dar Jin.[1]
Base of Operations[]
Gornath lairs in the Black Vault in the Frostblade Mountains along the frontier border between the Tashana Tundra and Dor Maleer in Riedra. It is a ruined tower formerly inhabited by the shulassakar and dating back to the Age of Demons.[1]
Abilities[]
Gornath is a dangerous foe who has caused the Harmonious Shield to adjust their policy of carefully observing and quietly containing dragons in Sarlona. Gornath avoids central Riedra and eastern Syrkarn where lie the bastion cities of the Inspired and the self-styled dragon guardian of Syrkarn, Qataakhast the Bright-Eyed.[1]
Gornath makes full use of his powerful breath weapon and psionic powers in addition to his innate sorcerer spells. He favors his psionic powers to influence the weak-willed.[1]
Rumors & Legends[]
Among the yuan-ti who serve him, Gornath is seen as embodying the essence of the overlord that is said to dwell beneath Syrkarn.[1]
The Conclave of Argonnessen is rumored to have engaged with the leadership of the Harmonious Shield to facilitate the Madwyrm's demise.[1]
Some suggest that an agent of the Thousand Eyes named Kumesha has even acted to protect Qataakhast from Gornath and the Gornatha.[4]
