The Galifar Calendar is the primary calendar system used on the continent of Khorvaire.[1] The calendar divides the year into 12 months, each of which contain 4 weeks and 28 days.[2][3] Each month corresponds with one of Eberron's moons.[3]

The years are counted from the founding of the kingdom of Galifar by Galifar ir'Wynarn I, using the abreviation YK, which stands for "years of the kingdom."[1][2][3]

Months[]

In addition to each month corresponding to a moon, each month also traditionally corresponds with a dragonmark.[1][2]

History[]

The calendar dividing the year into 12 months of 4 weeks and 28 days was standardized by the dragonmarked houses almost 1,000 years ago. The dragonmarked houses developed the calendar based off studies made by the dragons.[1]

The years dating from the founding of Galifar was developed during the reign of Galifar the Dark.[1]

Notes[]

Sources disagree on whether years before the founding of Galifar simply count back from the present time[2] or count back from the founding of Galifar.[4] The difference is displayed as -1,043[2] (-45 YK).[4] Because -1,043 is 1,043 years before 998 YK, the year can also be transcribed as -45 YK.

Generally, sources are written in years dating back from the present day (998 YK), though some sources in places like Secrets of Sarlona make use of the -YK format as well.
