Fire giants are militaristic giants who live near volcanoes and mountains in Xen'drik.[1][7][8]

Description[]

Fire giants had very broad bodies, making them vaguely dwarf-like in appearance, and bulky.[5] They stand roughly 18 feet (5.5 meters) tall,[5][9] but they weigh over 7,000 pounds (3,200 kilograms),[5] much heavier than a human of that height would weigh. Their skin is very dark, reminiscent of coal, and the color of their hair tends towards a spectrum of flaming orange or red.[5]

Their clothing is usually flame-colored or black and singed. They also tend to wear armor that was forged from steel if available.[5]

Personality[]

Fire giants generally relish opportunities in which they can test their fortitude against formidable opponents.[4]

Abilities[]

Although their bodies are impervious to harm from fire, fire giants are particularly vulnerable to cold.[5]

Combat[]

Fire giants were known to attack their enemies with rocks heated in fire or lava, thereby softening the targets before engaging in close quarters combat.[5] When it came to close quarters, fire giants favor the use of large swords, typically enchanted with flames.[5]

Society[]

The Battalion of the Basalt Towers is a group of fire giants in Xen'drik who follow in the footsteps of Fire Prince Adaxus of the Sul'at League.[10]

Fire giants are often hostage takers and take payments from less powerful creatures in their surrounding area in exchange for not attacking them.[5]

They are known to occasionally forge alliances with, and even serve, red dragons.[11] They are also known to domesticate hell hounds, keeping them as pets or guards.[4]

Lands[]

Fire giants prefer to dwell in hot environments like volcanic areas, either in caverns or castles, and exist in societies often led by a king or a queen.[5]

History[]

Most scholars agree that there was one race of giants during the Age of Giants, and that it was after the fall of the giants 40,000 years ago that they splintered into different kinds of giants, including fire giants. However, a small faction of scholars disagree and hold the opinion that the different kinds of giants were present before the collapse.[12]

Age of Giants[]

Main articles: Adaxus and Sul'at League

Prince Adaxus is said to have gained great power and permanently twisted his bloodline through fiendish alliances. Though he was bound, he formed the fire giants and the tradition of the Sul'at League as his legacy.[13][14]

Fire giants are believed to be descendants of the Sul'at League, a fierce society of giants around 40,000 years ago.[15] The Sul'at League were powerful magic users who followed in the footsteps of Adaxus, the first fire giant according to legend. They were very skilled at elemental binding, and are believed to have created the drow. The Sul'at were destroyed along with the other ancient giant civilizations, but their ruins still remain, inhabited by the Sulatar drow.[16]

Modern Era[]

Around 974 YK, Gorodan Ashlord was exiled from Xen'drik by a king of the fire giants.[17][18]

Rumors & Legends[]

Prince Adaxus is said to have gained great power and permanently twisted his bloodline through fiendish alliances. Though he was bound, he formed the fire giants and the tradition of the Sul'at League as his legacy.[13][14] A faction of fire giants in Xen'drik known as the Battalion of the Basalt Towers seeks to recover the lost knowledge of their Sul'at giant forebearers.[13] They strike bargains with fiends and allow for themselves to be possessed by fiendish beings to emulate Adaxus.[14]

The Sulatar drow believe that the Sul'at giants bound fire to their blood, and taught them the way of fire to find the path to the Land of the Promise. Though they think the giants have now fallen prey to madness, the Sulatar have stayed loyal to the teachings of their Sul'at fire giant masters for 40,000 years, in the belief that doing so means that one day they will be rewarded with immortality and an army that will allow them to sweep the world in an apocalypse of flame.[22][23] The Sulatar believe the giants did this to fulfill the Promise of Fire.[23][24]
