- the Eberron novels.
Estara was the name of an ancient kingdom of Khorvaire.[1]
Government[]
Estara was ruled by a royal family.[1]
Defense[]
Knighthood had a presence in Estara.[1]
History[]
Estara was established in southern Khorvaire at some point after −2,500, presumably expanding from the territory controlled by Seaside.[2]
At one point, a prince of this kingdom, Sir Marusan, made contact with the Court of the Silver Tree, one of the feyspires, and was kept there for some time (apparently long enough for his betrothed to marry another, live an entire lifetime, and die). While he was there, he gained the affection of an eladrin woman and developed feelings for her in return. She helped him escape, and when he returned to Eberron and found it changed, he tried for years to find the feyspire again and reunite with the fey woman. Eventually, he did, and they stayed in the Material Plane together as a married couple. The ghaele of the Silver Tree (her father, it's said), gave Sir Marusan the Preserving Shard, and named him and his descendants the Keepers of the Grove, to act as the bridge between mortal and fey. Marusan of Estara and his eladrin wife had children, and indeed, their bloodline endured for centuries, long after Estara disappeared (although many of them were killed by the dragon Sarmondelaryx).[1]

The Mournland, once Cyre, once Metrol, once Estara...
During its existence, the kingdom of Estara expanded to the borders of what is now the Mournland,[1] but ended up becoming part of a new nation, Metrol, which in turn was conquered by Galifar ir'Wynarn I, who gave it to one of his children to be its ruler and namesake, turning it into Cyre.[note 1]
Society[]
Humans lived in Estara. Some of them had contact with the eladrin of Thelanis.[1]
Folklore[]
The story of Sir Marusan and his eladrin wife inspired the best-known fairy tale in Eberron, in which a mortal man visiting a fey city falls in love with an eladrin woman but is unable to find his way back to her when he leaves.[3]
Appendix[]
Notes[]
- ↑ Five Nations, p. 8, says the pre-Galifar name of Cyre was "Metrol", which means that Estara existed earlier in time, before the territory expanded to the borders of Cyre.
