Dragonmark heirs are dragonmarked members of the dragonmarked houses who display a rare ability to improve and use their dragonmark powers in ways that go well beyond others in their houses.[1]

Society[]

Dragonmark heirs are well-respected by other members of their houses, particularly the unmarked. However, their more powerful marks do not perforce lead them to positions of leadership, given the greater need for business acumen. Instead, they occupy various roles in their houses.[1] Nevertheless, many house leaders are dragonmark heirs.[2]

House Vadalis views their dragonmark heirs as evidence of their close ties to nature, and thus they do not often have druids as advisors.[3]

Requirements[]

One requires a least dragonmark, of course, and a favored status in their house. They must also be highly skilled.[1] It might take one years to master and enhance their dragonmark.[4]

Abilities[]

As they progress, dragonmark heirs can manifest lesser and finally greater dragonmarks. They can acquire other spells associated with their marks or use their existing spells more often.[1] They also cast these spells with increased potency.[5]

They also become increasingly influential within their houses.[1]

Some of the magical equipment developed by the dragonmarked houses' artificers is designed to be used by dragonmark heirs, in order to make use of and increase their powers, and thus the power of the houses. These can be general-purpose and functional for any dragonmarked user, such as a dragonshard reservoir, or specialized and specific to a single mark like the speaking stones from House Sivis,[6] or even a single power of a single mark like the lightning reins for controlling lightning rail coaches for House Orien and the wheel of wind and water for controlling elemental airships and elemental galleons for House Lyrandar.[7]
