Demise, a.k.a. Lady Dannae Ulyana, is a Skullborn elf of Aerenal and a member of the Emerald Claw.[1][2]
Description[]
Demise is a thin but striking elf woman clad in colorful, exotic robes and jewelry. Her raven hair frames an ornate funerary mask, behind which only her sharp ice-blue eyes and fine chin and mouth are visible. She has a resonant voice.[1]
Demise is draped in a black robe, complemented by a darkweave cloak that clings to her like a strip of pure shadow, obscuring much of her form. Her face is concealed beneath an ornate, beautiful deathmask, its design cold and haunting. The flesh that is visible beneath her clothing—on her hands, forearms, and neck—appears gray and decayed, as though she were a zombie or a lich. Despite this unsettling appearance, her condition is artificially induced, and she is perfectly healthy and alive. If she ever removes her mask, her artificially rotting flesh becomes far more obvious.[2]
Personality[]
Demise exudes a chilling nihilism in all her interactions. She is relentlessly cynical, constantly questioning the value of others' accomplishments and pushing them to reconsider their efforts. With a cold, detached demeanor, she encourages heroes to abandon their struggles and accept the inevitable march of death. Her words are a constant reminder of life's fleeting nature, and she seeks to instill a sense of hopelessness in those around her, urging them to surrender rather than continue fighting.[2]
Demise is a fervorous devotee to Lady Vol and the Order of the Emerald Claw. She wishes to become a lich and serve at Vol's side.[2]
Abilities[]
Demise is an artificer and wizard specializing in necromancy.[2]
Possessions[]
Demise wears +1 shadowdance robes and wields a staff of ruin. She also has a potion of healing.[1]
History[]
Demise was born in Aerenal and became enamored by the stories of the Line of Vol. She later joined the Skullborn sect, and displayed her natural skill with necromancy. Thereafter, she was recruited into the Order of the Emerald Claw.[2]
Demise, along with her apprentice Jaenus approached Professor Gydd Nephret after being informed by Emerald Claw informant Dala Arand that a group of adventurers had come into possession of a piece of the Ashen Crown. Under the guise of Lady Dannae Ulyan, an Aereni noble interested in ancient elven artifacts, Demise requested that she and her apprentice attend the next meeting with the adventurers. During the meeting, Demise offered the adventurers 3000 gold pieces for the artifact but they declined.[1]
Demise then ransacked Gydd's home to attain information about the Ashen Crown and took Gydd captive. She then spent some time in Graywall preparing a trap for the adventurers and the Kech Volaar. When they arrived she had a changeling shapeshift into her and attack the adventurers whilst her double agent, Tikulti, assassinated the Kech Volaar. Tikulti then traveled back to Sharn and delivered all the pieces of the Ashen Crown he'd looted off the Kech Volaar to her. She then initiated the Rite of Arkantaash to turn the pieces into the Ashen Crown. She then killed and raised Gydd to become undead and through a sending stone she contacted the adventurers after hearing of their attempt to pursue her. She used the undead Gydd Nephret as a hostage to threaten the adventurers.[1]
Demise and her followers clashed with the adventurers in Ashurta's Tomb, where she was finally slain.[1]
