Dannel's Wrath, or simply the Wrath, is a Cyran militia based in Stormreach. It's the biggest in the city.[1][2][3]
Base of Operations[]
They have a hidden base in the Dannel's Pride ward,[1][2] in the Cross district of Stormreach. This area is home to the Cyran refugees of the city.[4]
Attitudes[]
As the name says, the Wrath are driven by righteous anger over the destruction of Cyre and a thirst for revenge against whoever was responsible. Unwilling to wait for Prince Oargev ir'Wynarn's patient diplomacy and investigation, they want justice now. These drives burn at the heart of the organization. The majority of members were once good and ordinary people, not criminals or killers, but their shock, grief, and anger over the Mourning have pushed them over the edge to commit desperate and immoral actions, yet they still believe their cause is just and aiding their fellow Cyrans.[2]
Activities[]
The Wrath's stated aims are to use terrorism to force the Five Nations to give better treatment to Cyran refugees all around Eberron, until they're given a new land they can again call home.[2] Locally, they want the Storm Lords of Stormreach to grant the Cyran refugees more land and recognition,[1] but many of them want nothing less than the whole city of Stormreach and the whole continent of Xen'drik as their own.[2] And they'll take their new homeland by force if they must.[3]
To this end, they've committed a few acts of politically motivated violence in public, such as bombings,[2] kidnapping, and hostage taking.[5] It's feared they might escalate with more aggressive or large-scale attacks, such as hurling fireballs and other war magic in markets and taverns[2] or spread their attacks further across the city.[6]
Thus far, though, they have more often acted as vigilantes, protecting Cyrans from harm and meting out justice for those who've suffered. They also focus on maintaining their secrecy[2][3] and increasing their strength in preparation.[7]
Members[]
Members are ex-soldiers of the Cyran military, joined by both ordinary folk and lawbreakers of like minds. Dannel's Wrath has no trouble attracting new members and replacing old ones from the masses of angry and vengeful Cyran refugees. There are 120 in all, mostly human and a smattering of others, and they are warriors, rogues, and rangers.[2]
A key member is "Eston", an artificer who manufactures magic items and explosives for the militia, and "Metrol", a warforged warrior[2]—their namesakes are the lost cities of Cyre.
Organization[]
The militia maintains a deliberately nebulous cell structure while its members live in secret among the people of the Dannel's Pride ward. In this way, when members are captured by the Stormreach Guard, the whole group cannot be exposed. Its leader, however, is a changeling known only as Fury, who interacts with each cell using a different face and identity for each[2] and recruits likely new members.[8][note 1]
Relationships[]
Dannel's Wrath enjoys the support of many refugees in Dannel's Ward who sympathize with their cause; they aid the militia in minor ways. But others in the ward dread that they might provoke the Storm Lords into making reprisals against the whole Cyran population in order to stop them. Cyrans are often torn between love for their lost country and trying to justify the Wrath's actions.[2] The elders in particular hate Fury and the Wrath, but the youths idolize them.[8] The Storm Lords and Stormreach Guard are of course completely opposed to their tactics.[1]
