Fey are creatures with supernatural abilities, usually tied to the forces of nature, but mostly connected to folklore, faerie tales, and the way mortal imagination interprets the world. Most fey have somewhat simple personalities tied to the story they incarnate or are part of, but as they grow more important they become more complex, gaining new traits and powers; the archfey are the most powerful form of fey, having domains and entire courts designed to help them be living stories, in a way that makes them almost unkillable. Whether they are humanoid-shaped or like entirely supernatural creatures, most fey come from the plane of Thelanis, the Faerie Court. Those that have migrated to Eberron tend to inhabit the wild places, and some (like dryads, naiads, and other nymphs) tend to stay in forests, wooded glades and remote springs. Some humanoid races have been descended from the fey, including the eladrin, the elves, and the gnomes; however, not all the descendants of fey retain actual benefits from this ancestry.
