Cadaver collectors are massive constructs designed for one purpose: to explore the battlefield and collect the corpses of those who have fallen. Used in the Last War, most cadaver collectors now scour the Mournland for bodies to harvest.[4][5]
Description[]
Cadaver collectors are massive humanoid constructs built of stone and metal.[4] They stand 12 feet (3.7 meters) tall and weigh 2 tons (1,800 kilograms).[3] There are said to exist larger and mightier kinds of the cadaver collector, known as greater cadaver collectors, with some reaching heights of 30 feet (9.1 meters) and weighing 15 tons (14,000 kilograms).[4]
They possess long plated arms that nearly drag along the ground, owing to the collectors' hunched shoulders. They possess a featureless, metallic oblong head, with glowing green eye sockets. Barbed spikes of various lengths jut out from the collector from all sides, including along its limbs. Bodies of fallen fighters adorn the various spikes on the collector's body, with the collector adding new bodies to its collection as it discovers more fallen.[4]
Behavior[]
While cadaver collectors can be controlled by their creators, they possess rudimentary minds, and master-less collectors will find new grounds to collect their dead. Controlled collectors often find themselves idle during peacetime, but are activated in wartime.[4]
Some that have ventured on their own have even learned ways to instigate combat if there are no corpses to be found, which allows them to fulfill their purpose of gathering the bodies of the dead. Others can no longer distinguish between the living and the dead and collect both blithely unaware.[4]
Cadaver collectors can be encountered on their own, in a pair, or in a squad of three to five at a time.[4]
Abilities[]
A cadaver collector has a number of abilities outside of its large durable armored frame and superhuman strength. Collectors can emit a paralyzing gas in a 30‑foot (9.1‑meter)-cone in front of them. This gas helps subdue those that still have some life within them. They use their spikes to impale enemies, both the living and the dead alike. They are adept at both grabbing their foes and trampling them underneath their feet.[4][2][1]
In addition, cadaver collectors are especially resistant to magic, possess armor capable of reducing damage, and possess both low-light vision and darkvision.[4]
Some cadaver collectors can summon specters from the spirits of those it has slain. These specters lack sensitivity to sunlight and dissipate if the collector is destroyed.[2][1]
Ecology[]
Cadaver collectors were created to gather corpses from the battlefield in order to gather information on enemy forces, for medical or magical research, or more often than not, for resources in the creation of undead.[4]
They can be encountered picking through the battlefields of the Last War in the Mournland.[4]
Cadaver collectors may even be constructed from the remnants of armor, shields, and weaponry from the battlefields of the Last War.[6]
