Bullywugs are a race of froglike humanoids.[2][1] present on the eastern coast of Khorvaire.[4]
Description[]
Bullywugs are amphibious humanoids that stand between 5′4″‒6′ (1.6‒1.8 m) and weigh 150 to 240 pounds (68 to 110 kilograms) on average,[3]
Personality[]
Though their true origin remain unclear, bullywugs are often perceived as cruel and aggressive, especially the Trub Glorp tribe, which has brought them into conflict with humans.[4]
Bullywugs are foul inhabitants of the natural world both in smell and company. They ruin their own swamp homes, leave behind a despoiled morass of mud, a mere echo of a once fertile swamp. The bullywugs are not unaware of this phenomenon; the difference in environment before and after they enter is so noticeable that even they view their own presence as "off" somehow. This sense of something being wrong manifests as paranoia, the sense that everything is out to get them somehow, although this feeling is not exactly untrue. Those that struck the scourge of bullywugs with particular precision or power sometimes feel a moment of renewed strength or clarity, as if the natural world itself was thanking them for their service.[2]
After exhausting other food sources, they may turn to cannibalism, although some are cannibals by choice.[2]
Abilities[]
Bullywugs can deliver powerful bites[1] and are creatures of notable athleticism.[2] The amphibians are strong swimmers able to move rapidly under the water. Despite being slow on land, bullywugs can hop as fast as they can run (and possibly faster), leaping 20 to 30 feet (6.1 to 9.1 meters) forward or 10 to 15 feet (3 to 4.6 meters) high in a single bound.[1]
Some bullywugs, known as croakers, are flabby and weak compared to their kin, but are able to belch up clouds of fetid, poisonous gas as they make their loud croaks.[2]
Combat[]
Bullywugs fight with spears and their bites.[1]
Lands[]
Bullywugs are native to the eastern coast of Khorvaire, particularly the warmer regions of the Lhazaar Principalities and the fringes of the continent.[4]
History[]
According to bullywug legends, their ancestors were once humans or goblinoids transformed by a god called the Lord of the Murky Waters, granting them swampland endurance and amphibious traits.<ref name="STadap">
They are known for their ancient conflicts with the dominant lizardfolk of the region.<ref name="STadap">
Rumors & Legends[]
Those familiar with the Lhazaar Principalities or Q'barra may more easily recall legends of the bullywugs of Khorvaire.<ref name="STadap">
Some scholars believe their origins are tied to the daelkyr or hobgoblin soldiers from the Dhakaani War.<ref name="STadap">
