Bulettes are large predatory creatures that feed on animals and humanoids alike.[1] They have been found in locations across Khorvaire and Xen'drik.[4][8][9]

Description[]

A bulette is large four-legged creature with a massive mouth. It has powerful claws that allow it to tunnel underground.[1]

Behavior[]

Bulettes are predators who operate out of a section of territory up to 30 miles (48 kilometers) wide. If it eats everything available in its territory, it moves on to find more food.[3][1] Sometimes the bulettes choose territory nearby to settlements, where they hunt the residents.[3]

Bulettes hunt prey by tunneling underground, a process that can be destructive to any obstruction that gets in its way. The bulette will then charge to the surface when it detects movement, ambushing its prey. It usually kills its prey by biting them, but also has a powerful leap that allows it to use its body as a weapon.[1]

Bulettes mate in a bloody mating ritual that usually ends with the female bulette killing and eating the male.[1]

Ecology[]

Bulettes live alone or in pairs.[3]

Landsharks are a frightening predator consumed by its desire to feed. They consume their prey whole, including all their possessions. They possess powerful stomach acid that breaks down everything up to and including magic items.[3]

Lands[]

Bulettes menace several regions. They can be encountered in the King's Forest of Breland,[4] and within the Mournland,[5] Gargantuan mutated bulettes sometimes emerge from the Mournland.[10]

Some bulettes emerge from the Vile Marsh of the Shadow Marches.[7]

The bulettes found in Karrnath have unique abilities based on their diet of carrion and the undead, possessing necrotic immunities and the disease of filth fever.[6]

In Xen'drik, bulettes are among the fiercest predators, finding plentiful prey throughout the dense jungle. Many of those Xen'drik bulettes rarely dwell underground, and prefer to hunt in the undergrowth of the jungle. They are able to move unimpeded through natural undergrowth, losing their ability to burrow in favor of moving through natural thorns, briars, and overgrown areas[8]

History[]

During the Last War, House Vadalis sold the warring nations trained bulettes that could dig under fortifications.[11] House Vadalis continues to maintain bulette ranches. Employees working at the ranch have a good deal of turnover due to the dangerous nature of the creatures.[12]

The bulettes of Karrnath adapted to feasting on carrion and the undead from the aftermath of battles of the Last War, developing necrotic abilities as a result.[6]

A massive stuffed bulette is on display at the Valdain Museum of Natural History on Morgrave University's campus in Sharn.[13]
