Prince Adal ir'Wynarn is the Minister of Magic and the First Warlord of Aundair. He is a member of the Aundairian Royal Family.[3][4][1]
Activities[]
An ambitious arcane mage, Prince Adal of Aundair operates as the liaison between the Arcane Congress and the royals of Aundair.[4][5] A resident of Fairhaven, he oversees the Arcane Congress and Ministry of Magic.[4] Along with his elder sister, Queen Aurala ir'Wynarn and Lord Darro ir'Lain, he is one of the three members of the unofficial triumvirate that governs Aundair.[1]
Personality[]
Adal is the elder of Queen Aurala ir'Wynarn's two younger brothers. Like his older sister, he also desires to see the Galifar crown upon the head of an Aundairian. However, in his dreams it his head upon which the crown rests and not his sister's. Forced to split his attention between Arcanix and the military, he relies a great deal on Lord Darro ir'Lain, whom he views as an aggressive and capable commander of Aundairian forces.[1]
As far as Adal is concerned, the Eldeen Reaches are nothing more than a big meat grinder and he has no desire to see Aundairian troops become food for the beasts of that wild, untamed land.[1]
He does however strongly desire to reclaim Aundair's former capital Thaliost from the Thrane army fortified within and around it. To this end he has employed a cabal of arcanists who are researching a spell capable of raining destruction down upon Thrane's forces there. Once he develops such a spell, Adal intends to use this new spell to subdue first Thrane, and then all of the other Galifar successor states, preferably under his own rule after he overthrows his sister Aurala.[4][1]
Relationships[]
Though he has many paramours, Adal has no spouse and no legitimate heirs.[4]
Adal views Aurala and her heirs as troublesome to his ultimate goal of becoming king of Aundair and Galifar, and hopes that they disappear in the midst of his planned magical attack on Thaliost.[4] While Darro ir'Lain attempts to curry favor with both Adal and Aurala,[4] Adal in turn views Darro as capable, albeit overly aggressive.[1] He believes that the castle's castellan Adele Fulirno is an ally, though she secretly is utterly loyal to Queen Aurala and conspires with Aurad to keep the warlords off balance.[4]
Adal maintains strong ties with the Wayfinder Foundation as a means to collect arcane items, arcane powers, and rituals that can serve his goals. He hires agents to operate in Thaliost and against Thrane as a whole, including double agents working for both him and his sister.[4]
Adal secretly undermined his sister by rescuing the elf wizard Elira Dawn of Arcanix from her scheduled execution for her role in unleashing devastating magic during the Last War. In Stormreach, under the alias of "the Dragonhawk," she continues her research into forbidden magic and awaits the call to return to Aundair.[6]
The warmage commander of the Queen's Ninth Wands, an elite infantry unit, Jorian Thiel, faithfully serves Adal and on his orders took the unit to Stormreach to protect the Dragonhawk.[6]
History[]
In 983 YK, Aurala agreed to an alliance with King Boranel of Breland on the condition that she execute mages of the Arcane Congress who had conducted research into the abilities of the daelkyr, the Age of Demons, and eldritch machines that were employed in the Last War. When Aurala agreed to the execution of these seven mages, she formed a rift with the Arcane Congress that persists to this day. Adal exploited this rift by rescuing one of the wizards, Elira Dawn, and maintains her as an agent in Stormreach.[6]
At the conclusion of the Last War, Adal directed Commander Jorian Thiel and the Queen's Ninth Wands to travel to Stormreach to work with Elira.[6]
Base of Operations[]
Prince Adal primarily resides in Arcanix, where he oversees the Arcane Congress and the Ministry of Magic. He commutes to Fairhaven to met with his sister and oversee military magical matters.[4]
